Selamat Hari Raya

Hari Raya is mostly for the children,  for reinforcing family ties and especially to be thankful to Allah for all we've been blessed with.

Just this afternoon we were lucky to escape what could have been a nasty accident with another car loaded with children and their goods.  They were presumably on their way to 'balik kampung' and in their hurry they disregarded the Highway Code.  The occupants of both cars are lucky to still be around to celebrate Hari Raya!

Right now at Setiawangsa the children (and the adults??) are shattering this Hari Raya eve with poundings of loud crackers - leaving us with no peace and serenity.  Malaysians  (well, most) will be tucking in tomorrow to loads of  food and joy.  I sound like a wet blanket, but on days like these I keep on thinking of the children in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and now Libya - and the adults who must be heartbroken because their children and grandchildren are denied the happiness of Eid that they knew when they were children.

Nearer to home, our street cleaners Osman and Aisha will not get their wages for August until after Hari Raya.  Their employers are fellow Malays!!

Among my many blessings I still have my siblings (albeit bereft of the youngest one)  Maznah and Mustapha  ......

........  and my soulmate.

SELAMAT  HARI  RAYA  TO ALL  MY READERS AND FRIENDS, YOUNG AND OLD, NEAR AND FAR.

MAAF  ZAHIR  DAN  BATIN.

Salam Aidil Fitri to you and Uncle!
Yes, Raya is a joyous time for all esp. the children! While some are lucky to be celebrating with their families, others are not so as you mentioned in those countries. May you and Uncle filled your home with love, laughter and magic this Raya with your loved ones, Amin!

Selamat Hari Raya to you and yours.

That's a beautiful raya card from the days of yore. Oooh, you're such a magpie. Old pictures, books, magazine and stories of "those were the days". That's why I'm always your avid reader (even if i don't always leave a comment).
Speaking of raya cards, last year i actually posted kad raya, thinking to revive a tradition. Alas I only got 2 in return. It's all sms now.
So this year, merajuk. And, you guessed it, i got many (35!) in the post.
Maybe i should not give up yet.

Salam
Ribut

Thank you. Hope you and your loved ones had a smashing Hari Raya.

Dear Ribut, thank you for that lengthy comment.

I'm so glad I inherited my late mum's habit of not throwing away anything - "It might come useful one day." - she used to say.

It is a shame - we have given up on sending cards. We don't even write letters to one another now! One day we will lose that one most important signature of our individuality - our handwriting.

No, you don't always have to leave a comment. I know there are people out there who enjoy my ramblings and I shall keep on doing so - doing what I like to do.

No, don't give up sending Hari Raya cards.

Salam Hari Raya to you and your loved ones.

I remember those cards. So nostalgic.

I think I can spend weeks and months looking through all your collectibles and never get bored.

Selamat hari raya to you and Uncle Iain.

Thank you Aida Marie Mohamad,

It's wonderful to find someone young who loves old things (including Darby and Joan?) and appreciates the ways of the past.

Selamat Hari Raya to you and your loved ones from Unc and the Teech.
